Kyrgyz President and Prime Minister of Uzbekistan discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation

Bishkek, Dec. 14, 2017. /Kabar/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Zheenbekov met today with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdullah Aripov within the framework of his official visit to Uzbekistan, the press service of the Kyrgyz President reported.

The sides discussed issues of deepening bilateral cooperation, as well as priority areas for cooperation.

Zheenbekov stressed that the talks with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev were held in the spirit of mutual understanding and friendship.

"I am glad that the Uzbek colleague initiated a meeting of akims of the border areas of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Projects in the transport and logistics sphere are actively moving forward. The trade turnover between our countries is increasing, and we are determined to further its growth. We have all the opportunities and great export potential for this. Our decisions and actions will be aimed at improving the lives of our peoples and their rapprochement," the president said.

He stressed that overall there is a huge unrealized potential in the trade and economic sphere between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and added that taking into account the existence of the GSP + status and membership in the EEU, Kyrgyzstan is interested in joint development of new markets for the supply of processing and textile products.

In order to maintain and develop regular passenger transport links between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as strengthen ties between the two peoples, the possibility of restoring regular passenger routes linking Osh, Jalal-Abad and Batken oblasts of Kyrgyzstan with neighboring regions of Uzbekistan is being considered. The issue of the resumption of flights between the cities of the two countries was also touched upon.

Zheenbekov again stressed that over the past year Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan made a breakthrough in relations. "It is gratifying that ministers and heads of departments of the two countries closely cooperate, they know each other well and resolve all issues in the spirit of mutual understanding and friendship at the talks," the president said.

The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan congratulated Zheenbekov with a convincing victory in the presidential elections. He said that the election of Zheenbekov as the Kyrgyz president indicates that the Kyrgyz people support his program aimed at the development of the country.

"The government of Uzbekistan is firmly committed to deepening cooperation between the countries, including in the agriculture, investment, tourism, industry. This is the political will of the country's top leadership. We are very pleased that on December 25, 2017 a meeting of the working groups of the two countries will take place on the construction of the Kyrgyzstan-China-Uzbekistan railway. This project will open new opportunities for the economy of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, create convenience for people. We are also ready to exchange experience on the projects "Electronic Government" and "Safe City", - Aripov stressed.

Zheenbekov wished Abdullah Aripov success in his responsible work.
